What Are Traded Binary Options?

Those of you that are already involved in the fast-paced, cut and thrust world of finance will know exactly what Binary Options are. However, for most of us the term means nothing. So, what are Binary Options?

In simple terms they are an all or nothing investment. You will either profit or lose everything when the option expires. There are two types of Binary Option – the Cash or Nothing and the Asset or Nothing options.

As with all types of investment, be it large or small, whichever option you choose will come with risks attached. Binary Options are a much simpler investment than most because you know, upfront, exactly how much you stand to lose or gain. There is not so much research involved in investing except you must know how the stock or asset is performing and has performed recently.

When you have done your research and chosen the commodity you want to invest in you then you have to decide how much money you are willing to risk. It is vital to note at this point that you do not own the stock or commodity you are investing in. You are purely gambling on its performance in the next hour, day or week. You choose the term of your investment.

Put Options Easy to Understand

What is a Put Option? A put option gives the holder of the stock the right, but not the obligation to sell the underlying asset at specific price during a preset period of time.

When you have the right to sell an option, the other party to the transaction has the obligation to buy. That is why it is called a put because you are “putting” the asset into the hands of the stocks seller at the agreed upon exercise price. This causes the option to increase in value as the price of the asset drops.

Let’s take a look at our earlier example of Widgets and Co to see how a put option works and why it gains value when the underlying asset price drops. It is January 2012.You know that the stock market has shown an extremely powerful seasonal tendency to drop during January and April.

Because Widgets and Co shares tend to rise and fall with the market, you want to own a stock that rises in value when the market falls. You want to own a put option. Widgets and Co is trading at 100 in January. You want to acquire the right to sell Widgets a Co shares if they drop in value, so you buy an option with a strike price of 100 and an expiration date of April18.

Binary options – a detailed description

Binary trading or binary options is a classic way of earning money. This type of a trading has different shades, different result outcomes and different views towards it. Binary option is a day trading option. This is based on the principle of ‘all or nothing’. Binary option is completely different from traditional day trading. To understand binary options, one has to understand what traditional option is and how option binary differs from them.

In a traditional day trading system, a person can buy or sell company shares depending on how NASDAQ is performing. In this case, a person owns the company shares and has the free will to sell the shares or hold it depending on NASDAQ. But in a binary option or options binary, whatever one may call it, there is a fixed amount which is traded meaning won or lost. Binary option is more like gambling. A person either wins it all or loses it all. Thus the name ‘all-or-nothing’ comes from. Here a person has the option to earn a fixed return which is known is fixed return options (FRO).
